Mangalore, May 25 (Thursday, 8-00 pm): After a long spell of sultry weather, which made residents literally sweat it out in humidity, monsoon showers appeared to show small mercy during the past two days.

"It is difficult to face the sudden showers..."

"Hope they wouldn't cancel the last bus service..."

Citizens have found real relief in the steady showers which have brought down the atmospheric temperature considerably. Office-goers and regular road-users found the situation a bit too unexpected.

Most of them had not anticipated a continuous downpour and had not armed themselves with rainwear and umbrellas.

"Hurry home, hurry, before the rains would leave us in worry..."

"It's my season now, please come in queue..."

In spite of all the convenience faced while walking on the roads or travelling by public transport, there was the saving grace for everyone - there was a cool break after a long spell of summer.

"Here's a helping hand, when you're in need..."

"For Goodness' sake, don't you speed, the road is slippery and wet..."

It has been a set pattern in the weather behaviour for many years now, in that the city would have rains right at last, after the rest of the district would have had a few rounds of showers.

Our reporters and lensmen were on different spots in the city to capture some moments of anxiety, tension and rushing around.

'Even if there are to be power cuts, we could sleep well in the nights without fans,' commented a colleague.
