Preston to host snooker Players Championship


London, Feb 21 (IANS): The snooker Players Championship Grand Final will be held in Preston March 25-29, World Snooker said Friday.

The 300,000 pound tournament will be held in Guild Hall, which used to be the venue for the UK Championship 1978-1997 and the Grand Prix in 1998-1999 and 2001-2005, reports Xinhua.

The Players Championship Grand Final is the culmination of the European Tour and Asian Tour which has run throughout the 2013-14 season. The top 24 from the European Tour Order of Merit, including the likes of Ronnie O'Sullivan, Mark Selby, John Higgins, Judd Trump, Ding Junhui and Neil Robertson will be eligible to enter and chase the 100,000 pounds top prize.

The tournament was originally to be staged in Bangkok but has changed location due to political unrest in the Thai capital.
