12 killed in Pakistan blast

Islamabad, Feb 23 (IANS): At least 12 people were killed Sunday and several others injured in a blast in Pakistan's Kohat district, a media report said.

Inspector General of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Nasir Khan Durrani said the blast took place near a vehicle at Peshawar Chowk, reported Dawn online.

Durrani said the blast appeared to have been carried out using a planted device and was not the act of a suicide bomber.

He said five kg of explosives, planted in a wooden crate placed by the roadside, were used in the blast.

The explosives were detonated when a passenger vehicle reached Peshawar Chowk injuring the occupants of the vehicle and the driver of a rickshaw parked nearby.

The victims were shifted to Liaquat Memorial hospital and security personnel cordoned off the area.
