Two killed, 22 injured in Thailand blast

Bangkok, Feb 23 (IANS): At least two people were killed Sunday and 22 others injured in a blast near an anti-government protest site here, a media report said.

A boy and a woman succumbed to injuries inflicted by the attack on the protestors near a departmental store at the Ratchprasong intersection, the Bangkok Post reported citing Erawan Emergency Health Service.

The country has seen sporadic violence since political unrest erupted in November last year.

On Saturday night, attackers shot and threw grenades at a protest site in Thailand's Trat province, leaving a five-year-old girl dead and 34 others injured.

Among the 34 injured people, 29 are still under treatment in hospitals.

A total of 17 people have been killed and 739 others injured in political violence since Nov 30, 2013, said Suphan Srithammarak, health department chief.

Of the 739 injured, 695 sustained injuries in Bangkok, and others in provinces of Trat, Pathum Thani and Rayong.
