OIC Secretary-General condemns terrorist attack in Somalia

Jeddah, Feb 24 (IANS/WAM): Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Secretary-General Iyad Amen Madani has strongly condemned the assault Feb 21 on the Presidential Palace in Mogadishu, the seat of the Somali government, resulting in the death of scores of people, including government officials.

Madani, who described the attack that targeted the country's leadership as "unjustifiable, unacceptable and aimed at destabilising the nation", Sunday expressed his deep sadness over the loss of lives.

The secretary-general, while reiterating the solidarity of the OIC with the government of Somalia under the leadership of President Hassan Sheikh Mohamoud, urged him not to relent in his efforts to combat all those who negate the values of the peaceful, tolerant and moderate religion of Islam.

He also reiterated the principled position of the OIC which denounces and rejects violence in all its forms and manifestations.
