New Delhi, Feb 24 (ANS): Sharon Johnston, the wife of visiting Canadian Governor General David Lloyd Johnston, Monday interacted with workers of SEWA Bharat, an NGO for underprivileged self-employed women workers here.
Johnston visited SEWA Bharat's recently launched outlet Loom Mool, which provides a commercial platform for cooperatives associated with SEWA (Self-employed Women's Association of India) Bharat to showcase the products made by women members, in Hauz Khas Village area of south Delhi.
The dignitary interacted with the artisans responsible for the creation of the products.
At the store, Johnston spoke with the women members and gained an insight into their lives as they shared details of their family life, working hours and work load, home management, children and their education and health.
The experience furnished Johnston with an understanding of how the alliance has resulted in a significant change in the way these women lead their lives and who have thus grown as independent individuals, said a release.
She appreciated the Loom Mool products, which are made of traditional Bhagalpur silk, sourced from the cooperatives based in Bihar.
Launched in 2013 and supported by SEWA Bharat, Loom Mool presents products made from using traditional crafts with a strong contemporary blend.
