Shinde threatens to 'crush' e-media indulging in anti-Cong propaganda

Meant social media, not journalism: Shinde

Updated

Sholapur (Maharashtra), Feb 25 (PTI):
After stoking a controversy by threatening to "crush" the electronic media, Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde said he was speaking about the social media and not about journalism.

"I was referring to social media and the violence incited against students from the Northeast in Hyderabad and Karnataka. My comments were not about journalism", he said here last night.

Shinde had on Sunday evening threatened to "crush" the electronic media, alleging a section of it was unnecessarily provoking the Congress by indulging in "false propaganda" against it.

The outburst by Shinde, a Congress leader who hails from Maharashtra's Sholapur district, came at a Youth Congress event.

Shinde, who is a Lok Sabha MP from Sholapur, alleged that since the last four months a section of the electronic media is "manipulating" news about him and his party and warned it would be "crushed" if this kind of reportage is not stopped immediately.

"What is happening in the electronic media largely I am aware of it. In the last four months there have been efforts by the media to provoke us (Congress). We will crush such elements in the electronic media, which are indulging in false propaganda, if it did not stop" he said.

"I have the intelligence department under me. I know who is doing such things. I know what is happening. Some forces are behind this," he added.

Shinde's remarks came against the backdrop of a series of opinion polls in the national and regional media which predicted a poor showing for the Congress in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.

Urging the media to focus on positive stories, which will be welcomed by the people, Shinde said the people of the country will not accept those dividing the country by disturbing society.

Shinde threatens to 'crush' e-media indulging in anti-Cong propaganda

Sholapur, Feb 25 (PTI):
Stoking a controversy, Union Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde threatened to "crush" the electronic media, alleging a section of it was unnecessarily provoking the Congress party by indulging in "false propaganda" against it.

The outburst by Shinde, a Congress leader who hails from Maharashtra's Sholapur district, came at a Youth Congress event here last evening.

Shinde, who is a Lok Sabha MP from Sholapur, alleged that since the last four months a section of the electronic media is "manipulating" news about him and his party and warned it would be "crushed" if this kind of reportage is not stopped immediately.

Shinde's attack against electronic media came even as the Editors Guild of India today objected to "unsubstantiated charges" levelled by public figures dissatisfied with the coverage of their activities or with criticism.

The Guild expressed its view against the backdrop of attack on media by AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal and former Army Chief Gen V K Singh,

It appealed to political leaders and public figures not to resort to "vague, unsubstantiated charges of corrupt motives and abuses when refuting, questioning or criticising the media and keep the public discourse civil and within reasonable bounds."

If you are getting hammered by other people, then you deserve it. Because if you spew venom and write gibberish you are bound to get it back two folds.

If you are frustrated here with people who reply to you then go and write your comments in some sanghi website which adores Nathuram Godse.

    Get a life!!!

Pappu supporters are not educated enough to create account in social networking sites. Even if someone created accounts by much difficulty, they could not post anything because they didn't find Kannada, Hindi, Bengali, Marathi keys in the keyboard.

    Mr. Mix breed
I agree, Congress is corrupt, but BJP is currupt danger to the nation.
I can tolerate corruption (because it is impossible to eliminate from our system), but I cannot tolerate, killing people or developing hatred among people in the name of religion.

Thanks Shetty Bhai. Since you are living outside India, I am sure you have witnessed how Indians have been treated outside our country. Many times Indians are abused calling 'Hindi' in a very abusive manner. When our fellow Indian is abused, we feel very much hurt irrespective of his religion and state. It is because at that moment we strongly feel we are "Indians". However, in India, those who have not seen the world fall prey to Politicians who instigate Indian against Indian on religion. It is purely politician's selfishness to gain power and not with real love for the country or for the religion. I am not anti BJP, but, against few members of BJP who try to divide India for their personal, selfish gain. You may have read my comments praising Mr. Parikar, BJP CM of Goa who never mix religion with Politics. We need leaders who try to spread love and unity among Indians, which will allow India's development and progress. Pray that such leaders will exist in India. Let our slogan be "WE ARE INDIANS". Jai Hind.

It is obvious for Shinde to get frustrated by looking at the falling figures in opinion polls.
He thinks it as a propaganda, 'Bechara' does not know that it is real.

Who comments in Social Media? It is fellow people of this country. They have the right of expression. I know people are sharing funny pictures of rahul, mms, sibal, chidu, moily, ramesh etc. Yes, it is because people are frustrated with your govt.

Don't think people are only against congress. Last year people were sharing funny pictures of Yeddyurappa, Shobha etc.

Similarly Ex Home Minister of Karnataka had planned to appoint an ombudsman with an eveil intention to curb public opinion, Press and the media from reporting atrocities against girls & minorities, irregularities and illegalities committed by the BJP government and Bajrangis during the BJP rule.

The home minister planned to go against the freedom of speech and expression guaranteed by our Constitution in 2009 just to please its radical right wing groups.

Shinde Sahab, though I am pro congress, when it comes to corruption, I am certainly anti congress. Though other parties are not saints, Congress is one step ahead of all other parties in corruption. No use of expressing depression against e-media, but, try to distance from corruption. Jai ho AAP.

Sandeep, Bajapa has mastered the art of buying social media.

A news report had revealed that BJP is paying some small news channels, internet/social network users for misleading people and promoting BJP. It was also noted that Feku has 70 percent fake, 23 percent inactive followers on twitter and a lot of dummy 'likes' and propagandists who abuse and threaten people on Fb.

It is evident that your network of Sanghi trolls are BUSY PRESSING 'disagree' without even reading the article or comment. People who have such extremist ideology are a threat to harmony in our society.

I must also make you aware that MAJORITY of your comments in this forum are in bad taste.
