Agra to get clean water by year-end


Lucknow, Feb 25 (IANS): Agra city would start getting clean water by the end of 2014, a minister said in the state assembly.

Urban Development Minister Mohd Azam Khan said the Taj city will get 144 MLD (million liter per day) of pure water supply by the end of 2014, and this would be increased to 600 MLD by 2016.

The minister was responding to a question by a Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) legislator from Agra Dharam Pal Singh.

Singh had stated in the assembly Monday that water in Agra had large amounts of lead and the poor quality was giving rise to serious kidney and liver ailments.

The urban development minister, however, conceded that the water might be appear muddy due to acute shortage.
