Mangalore, May 29: At the monthly meeting organised by the Police Department on Sunday to redress the grievances of members of Dalit communities, a resolution was adopted, seeking installation of a statue of B R Ambedkar in the city.

K Gopala Kadumath, member, District Legal Services Authority, who moved a resolution in this regard, said there was no Ambedkar statue anywhere in the city. New Mangalore Port had erected one at Panambur. It was important to install a statue at a prime location in the city, which was the district headquarters, he said.

B D D'Souza, Deputy Superintendent of Police, DCRB, who presided over the meeting asked Kadumath to raise the issue at the district-level meeting of Dalits convened by the Deputy Commissioner.
