Karkala, May 29: Mudradi gram panchayat member Bhavani (50) was killed in an accident at Majoor near Hirgan here.
She was travelling on a jeep from Hebri to Moodbidri when a goods tempo coming from the opposite direction collided with the jeep. As a result Bhavani sustained serious injuries and was immediately rushed to a private hospital here.
However, she was shifted to KMC Hospital at Manipal later. But she succumbed to the injuries later in the night.
Meanwhile, the good tempo which rammed into the jeep did not stop on the spot. So the police immediately passed news to the surrounding police station. The tempo was finally spotted at Harikhandige by Hiriadka police. But the tempo driver had fled the place by the time.
It is said the tempo was on its way to Shimoga from Panjimogaru in Mangalore.
The Karkala town police have booked a case in this regard.
