Former police officer joins Jharkhand party

Ranchi, Feb 27 (IANS): Amitabh Chaudhary, president of the Jharkhand State Cricket Association (JSCA) and a former police officer, Thursday joined the Jharkhand Vikas Morcha-Prajatantrik (JVM-P).

"Our party has become stronger and we may consider his candidature for the Lok Sabha election from the Ranchi seat," party president Babulal Marandi told reporters.

Chaudhary, an Indian Police Service officer, took voluntary retirement last year and wanted to join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

BJP sources, however, said that when he was informed that the party could not field him from Ranchi, it prompted Chaudhary to join the JVM-P.

Many Indian Administrative Service (IAS) and Indian Police Service (IPS) officers have applied for voluntary retirement to contest the Lok sabha polls.

Ajay Kumar, a former IPS officer, is a Lok Sabha medmber from JVM-P from Jamshedpur.
