UN hails Morocco's peacekeeping contribution in Africa

United Nations, Feb 28 (IANS): UN Under-Secretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations Hervé Ladsous has hailed Morocco's contribution to UN operations in Africa where 1,600 Moroccan blue helmets are deployed, mainly in Côte d'Ivoire and Congo.

"I think that Morocco's contribution should be commended since there are today 1,600 Moroccan blue helmets whom are deployed mainly in Côte d'Ivoire and Congo," Ladsous Wednesday told the Moroccan news agency MAP.

"I must say that every time I was in one of these missions, I insisted on meeting the Moroccan contingents to express our recognition for the tremendous job they are doing," he added.

Ladsous also hailed Morocco's commitment to the strife-torn Central African Republic, noting that Morocco accepted to deploy on short notice a unit of protection for the UN mission.
