51,000 hospitals set up, upgraded in 10 years: Azad


New Delhi, Feb 28 (IANS): The government has set up and upgraded 51,000 hospitals in the country during the last 10 years, Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad said Friday.

The hospitals came up at the district, sub-district, community and primary health centre levels, Azad said here while announcing the upgradation of the Maharani Laxmi Bai Medical College, Jhansi.

Azad said the centre has allocated Rs.1.5 billion for the project.

He added that the government has allocated Rs.152.99 billion to Uttar Pradesh in the last nine years under the National Rural Health Mission.

The government has also launched a number of schemes for pregnant women and mothers and children, the minister said.
