Gangpur-Odisha on top in men's hockey nationals


Lucknow, March 2 (IANS): Hockey Gangpur-Odisha registered their fourth consecutive win in the 4th Hockey India Senior Men National Championship beating Tripura 9-0 at the Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium here Sunday.

With the win, Gangpur-Odisha stayed on top of Pool C with 12 points from four matches. Ashish Anmol Minz scored four goals, William Xalxo thrice and Banamali Xess and Roshan Minz one goal each.

Gangpur-Odisha took an early lead in the ninth minute with a field goal scored by Ashish.

Earlier, N. Sellamuthu struck three goals against Assam to give Puducherry their first win in the championship at 11-1 in the Pool C league match.

Other scorers for Puducherry were M. Harikrishnan and N. Kamalakannan who scored two goals each, while R. Aravindn, S. Sivaganesh, V. Karthikeyan and G. Senthilkumar scored a goal apiece. Vinod Kumar Mishra struck the consolation goal for Assam.

In Pool D, Central Reserve Police Force defeated Kerala 2-1. Nimhas Khokha and Amaritvir Singh struck once for CRPF, while Joshan George scored for Kerala.

Pool C: Puducherry 11 N. Sellamuthu (16, 25, 57 min), M. Harikrishnan (28, 67 min), N. Kamalakannan (5, 40 min), R. Aravindn (53 min), S. Sivaganesh (32 min), V. Karthikeyan (59 min) and G. Senthilkumar (43 min) vs Assam 1 Vinod Kumar Mishra (58 min).

Hockey Gangpur-Odisha 9 Ashish Anmol Minz (9, 32, 59, 62 min), William Xalxo (24, 34, 44 min), Banamali Xess (68 min) and Roshan Minz (50 min) vs Tripura 0.

Pool D CRPF 2 Nimhas Khkha (27 min) and Amaritvir Singh (56 min) vs Kerala 1 Joshan George (22 min).
