May 31: A colourful festival awaits Kannadigas in the Gulf as the Abu Dhabi Karnataka Sangha, one of the most distinguished community forums of Kannada speaking residents of the Gulf, gears itself to celebrate its silver jubilee on Friday June 9 at the Armed Forces Officers Club, Abu Dhabi. The festivities, which will begin at 10 am, will be attended by chief minister H D Kumaraswamy, Kannada silver screen actor Ramesh Aravind and humourist Narashimha Murthy.

Befitting the occasion, an array of cultural events will be presented by members of Karnataka Sanghas from Dubai, Sharjah, Al Ain and Abu Dhabi . Traditional welcome, folk dances, folk music and Kannada skits are all set to create a festive, colourful and vibrant ambience which will take the whole celebration to a magnificent level of entertainment and contentment.

The programme is open to all Kannadigas of Gulf. Mechanical engineer-turned-Kannada star Ramesh Aravind, one of the most popular actors who has acted as the lead man in 112 films in various languages, and Narashimha Murthy who has gained vast popularity over the past two decades through his humorous writings in periodicals and collections will entertain the audience with their witty Kannada oratory skills.

The forum has been presenting several activities and programmes for many years. It is the Abu Dhabi Karnataka Sangha which championed the cause of the Kannada language and culture in the Gulf by setting an example by presenting every function in chaste Kannada and incorporating the traditional activities depicting the cultural tradition of Karnataka in their programmes.

The Sangha is staunchly supported by Dr B R Shetty. He along with president Sarvotham Shetty have been the driving force behind the forum.
