Mangalore, May 31: As many as 50 houses were damaged in the 5 taluks of Dakshina Kannada district following the nearly week-long rain. The death of one person has been reported, but officials are verifying whether it is rain related or not. The exact loss has also not been estimated yet.
The maximum damage to pucca houses has been in Mangalore taluk. As many as 15 houses were damaged considerably, while one was completely damaged. In Bantwal taluk, one house was completely damaged and two partially. In Sullia, 11 houses were partially damaged. Bantwal and Puttur taluks accounted for two each. The total number of pucca houses damaged is 32.
Of the 18 houses, in Sullia taluk, one kuccha house was completely damaged and three partially. Beltangady (8), Bantwal (5) and Puttur (1) accounted for the remaining of the 14.
The water level in Kumaradhara river at Subramanya in Sullia taluk, is rising rapidly and stands at 4.5 metres - 0.5 metres shy of the danger mark. Locals said that it was the first time, the river was flowing at this level in the month of May.
On Tuesday, May 30, the Jet Airways flight from Mumbai circled the airport for nearly an hour before landing and the flight from Bangalore was delayed for 90 minutes due to bad weather at Bajpe airport.
