Two Maoists killed in Odisha gunfight

Bhubaneswar, March 4 (IANS): At least two Maoists were killed in a gunfight with security forces in a forested area in Odisha's Koraput district Tuesday, police said.

The exchange of fire took place near Potangi, over 500 km from Bhubaneswar, after the rebels opened fire at a police team engaged in anti-Maoist operations.

Police retaliated and two Maoists - in their 30s - were killed in the exchange of fire, Superintendent of Police Avinash Kumar told IANS.

A few rifles and magazines were found at the site.

Koraput is considered a Maoist stronghold.
