Odisha announces insurance for journalists

Bhubaneswar, March 4 (IANS): Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik Tuesday announced an insurance cover of Rs.1 lakh for every journalist in the state.

Five members of a journalist's family will also be covered under the scheme, the chief minister's office said.

The announcement came a day after the government announced an increase in the monthly stipend and salaries of house surgeons and Ayush doctors - or ayurvedic and unani practitioners - working in government hospitals.

The hike, which will take effect next month, will benefit 1,516 Ayush doctors and about 550 house surgeons.

The government recently increased the dearness allowance of over six lakh government employees. The hike would be applicable from Jan 1 this year.
