Key Taliban commander killed in Afghanistan


Kabul, March 4 (IANS): Two militants, including a key Taliban commander, were killed and six others injured in Afghanistan Tuesday, a statement by the provincial government said.

"Acting upon an intelligence report, the security forces raided the Taliban hideout in Damirdad province today at noon and in the clash which lasted for a while two Taliban rebels, including a key commander, were killed and six others injured", Xinhua quoted the statement as saying.

It did not reveal the name of the dead commander but noted that his death was a major setback to the Taliban insurgents in the Wardak province.

No security personnel or civilians were hurt during the operation, the statement added.
