Udupi, May 31: Dr A Subrahmaneshwar Rao (31) took over as the new superintendent of police of the district on Monday May 29. He took over from B S Lokesh Kumar, ASP of Dakshina Kannada district who was in-charge SP after S Murugan was transferred to Mysore.
Dr A Subrahmaneshwar Rao who hails from Andhra Pradesh secured his MBBS degree from Government Medical College at Bangalore. Thereafter he served as deputy commander in Central Industries Security Force (CISF) for two years before clearing his IPS exams.
After completing two-month probationary period in Belgaum, he was posted as ASP of Puttur sub-division in the Dakshina Kannada district. He served as ASP there for one and half year before being promoted and transferred as SP to Kodagu only a fortnight ago. He had taken over the charge of SP in Kodagu and served there for two weeks before government appointed him SP of the district.
As known, the said post was vacant after S Murugan was transferred. Though B K Singh was appointed in his place, he did not come to the district citing various law and order problems including the increasing Naxal menace.
