Daijiworld Exclusive Report from Brahmavar (GA)

Udupi, May 31: Even as the families of two fishermen who were washed away by raging waves on Sunday night were in total shock, the body of Anand Baikady has been fished out from River Sita at Airody near Brahmavar here on Wednesday May 31 morning.

Speaking exclusively to Daijiworld.com, Prakash, a close relative of the family said that Anand who had gone fishing on “Dhanalaskshmi” boat owned by his cousin Narayan Kunder, Baikady was thrown to the sea on Sunday May 28 night when their boat was just 6-7 kilometres away from the Malpe shores.  There were 6 of them in the boat including Narayan's elder brother Jagannath Kunder.

Three of them, Devendra, Prashant and Timmappa Mogera were rescued by Ashok Suvarna of "Dhansagar" boat after he heard them shout for help while trying to reach the shores by remaining afloat with the help of a diesel can.

But Anand Baikady,. Chandra and Jagannath Kunder Baikady never came up once their boat capsized.  Among them, Chandra's body was found at Kodi-Kanyana on Tuesday May 30.  Now Anands' body has been fished out in Sita River on Wednesday.

Anand who had married only a few years ago is survived by wife and young child.

On the other hand Jagannath's family members are still in deep shock and sorrow as they have not come to terms with what has happened with Jagannath.  His wife Radha who used to contribute financially to the family by selling fish in Brahmavar fish market had gone to her parental house along with their children Shruti and Shashwat, who are studying in VIII and IV classes respectively, and were on summer holidays.  They had come home only on Monday May 29 morning since the schools were to reopen on that day.  But within few minutes of their reaching home, they received the shocking news.

It has 3 long days since the tragedy occurred.  But there has been no news about Jagannath.  His body has not yet been traced either. This has been a cause of major trauma as the entire house is plunged in deep sorrow and despair.  With each passing minute they are losing hope of even finding the body owing to incessant rains and raging sea.

Update - May 31 - 7.10 pm

Jagannath's Body Found:

A close relative of Jagannath's family from Baikady while speaking to this correspondent said that Jagannath's body too has been found at Hoode near Kemman here on Wednesday evening.  However, no once except Jagannath's younger brother Narayan have reached the spot.  More details are awaited.
