1.28 lakh new voters in Delhi


New Delhi, March 5 (IANS): Of Delhi's over 1.2 crore voters, 1.28 lakh will vote for the first time in the Lok Sabha polls, an official said Wednesday.

Delhi has seven parliamentary constituencies and will go to polls April 10.

"A total of 1.2 crore people will cast their votes, out of which 1.28 lakh will vote for the first time," Delhi's Chief Electoral Officer Vijay Dev said.

Over 66 lakh are male voters while more than 53 lakh are females. The list includes 68 transgenders.

The last date for filing nominations is March 22, while candidates can withdraw from the fray by March 26. Nomination forms will be scrutinised March 24.

Dev said efforts will be made to ensure that the elections are conducted in a fair manner in the national capital.
