Poll panel seeks police report on violence

New Delhi, March 6 (IANS): The Election Commission Thursday directed Delhi Police to submit a report on the AAP-BJP clash here Wednesday.

"Police have been asked to name all the party workers who violated the model code of conduct," Delhi's Chief Electoral Officer Vijay Dev told IANS.

"If party workers are found to be guilty, the party can be de-recognized," he added.

On Wednesday, clashes erupted after AAP members staged a noisy protest outside the BJP headquarters here to denounce the brief detention of AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal in Gujarat.

The incident here took place only hours after the Election Commission announced the Lok Sabha election schedule and enforced the mandatory model code of conduct for all political parties and candidates.

Vijay Dev said the Election Commission could take action against the party leaders if it was proved that they didn't stop their activists from indulging in violence.

The Election Commission has also called an all-party meeting in Delhi.
