Mangalore, Jun 1: Met officials have forecast heavy rains for the next 24 hours, beginning late Wednesday, in coastal Karnataka and the Western Ghats region.

Gales travelling at a speed of 45 to 55 kms an hour are expected to accompany the rains. Accordingly, the officials have warned the fishermen against getting into the sea until further instructions.

Suitable steps of caution have been taken at all ports, said Met department sources.
