Ukraine moves court over Crimea's referendum decision

Kiev, March 7 (IANS/ITAR -TASS): The Ukrainian prosecutor general’s office has filed a charge in a district court in Kiev against the decision of the Supreme Council or parliament of the autonomous republic of Crimea to hold a referendum on Crimea’s accession to Russia, its press service said Friday.

The press service said, the Supreme Council in its ruling had violated legislation, and that the decision was encroaching on Ukraine’s territorial integrity, thus necessitating interference of prosecution agencies.

On March 6, Crimea’s Supreme Council asked Moscow to allow the region to become part of the Russian Federation. The issue will likely be put to a referendum March 16.
