Ajman, Jun 1: Under the patronage of Sheikh Hamdan Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, deputy Prime Minister, president of Red Crescent Society, UAE, Gulf Medical College Hospital in Fujirah will be inaugurated on Tuesday June 6 at 5 pm.

A press release stated that the hospital will initially open with 20 beds but will be upgraded to a 60-bedded full-fledged multi-specialty hospital providing quality care at affordable prices. The hospital is equipped with various specialty departments and services supported by highly qualified and experienced doctors, technicians and trained nurses, the release said.

The following services will be immediately operational - operation theatres, ICU, pharmacy, laboratory, radiology, dental, surgery, internal medicine, paediatrics, general medicine, 24 hours emergency, inpatient services and outpatient services.  

On the day of the inauguration a free health camp will be conducted at GMC Hospital, Fujirah in association with Indian Association, Egypt Association and Dubai Indian Islamic Centre. More than 600 people will be given consultation at the camp.

The release stated that this was the first pilot project between Red Crescent Society and GMC Hospital. The mission of the hospital is to provide comprehensive healthcare services at affordable prices and support the activities of the Red Crescent Society.

Meanwhile, the president of Gulf Medical College Ajman (GMCA) Thumbay Moideen called on Sheikh Nahayan Bin Mubarak Al Nahayan, minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, UAE, to apprise him of the progress of the college and its future plans. The college presently offers programmes in MBBS and BPT programmes. Both programmes are recognized by the ministry. The college is listed under the Directory of Medical Schools of World Health Organisation and IMED under the auspices of FAIMER, the release said.

GMC hospital and research centre, an integral part of the college, is the only university hospital in the region with a capacity of 250 beds.

The college is planning to add programmes in nursing, pharmacy and dentistry from the next academic year onwards. Due to tremendous response and enquiries received by the college, registrations for 2006-07 batch have begun. Interested students may contact the admissions department at the college on all working days.

The second convocation of GMCA will be held on Saturday June 10 at the Ajman Kempinski Hotel and Resort. The chief guest will be Sheikh Humaid Bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Ajman. B Ahmed Hajee Mohiudeen, chairman, BA Group India will be the guest of honour and Thumbay Moideen, founder president, Gulf Medical College, will preside over the function.
