New Delhi, March 7 (IANS): India Friday dismissed Pakistan's offer to Kashmiri students, who had been booked in Uttar Pradesh's Meerut city for celebrating Pakistan's victory over India in a cricket match, that they could pursue their studies in that country.

External affairs ministry spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin cited an Urdu couplet in response to a question on Pakistan's comments on the issue.

"Those who live in glass houses should not throw stones at others," he said.

The Pakistan foreign ministry had said that if the Kashmiri students wanted to come and pursue their studies in Pakistan, "our hearts and our academic institutions are open to them".

The Uttar Pradesh government Thursday withdrew sedition charges against 67 Kashmiri students who were accused of celebrating the Pakistan cricket team's victory over India.

Kashmiri students of Swami Vivekanand Subharti University (SVSU) in Meerut had alleged victimisation by the administration and police. They said 67 of them were forced to leave the college after the administration called the police to ensure their eviction from the hostel.

The students were accused of celebrating the victory of the Pakistan team in a crucial match of the Asia Cup championship in Dhaka and booked by police under various sections of the Indian Penal Code including sedition.
