Alam's maiden ton powers Pakistan to 260/5


Mirpur (Bangladesh), March 8 (IANS): Fawad Alam's maiden hundred powered Pakistan to 260 for five against Sri Lanka in the final of the Asia Cup at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium here Saturday.

Alam's 114 not out rescued Pakistan from a precarious 18 for three and took it to a fighting total.

Alam and captain Misbah-ul-Haq (65) shared a 122-run stand for the fourth wicket.

Umar Ukmal's 59 off 42 balls towards the end provided the much-needed impetus that the Pakistani innings lacked.

Lasith Malinga was only wicket-take on the day for Sri Lanka picking five wickets for 56 runs in his 10 overs.

All-rounder Angelo Mathews was the most economical bowler giving away just 23 runs in seven overs.
