Sexual harassment of serious concern: Himachal acting CJ

Shimla, March 8 (IANS): Violence against women and sexual harassment at the workplace are serious concerns and the judiciary can play a major role in delivering gender justice, Himachal Pradesh High Court Acting Chief Justice Mansoor Ahmad Mir said Saturday.

Addressing a workshop organised by the state judicial academy here on the International Women's Day, Mir called upon the judicial officers to render quick, speedy and economic justice for the women victims.

Justice Rajiv Sharma said there are plenty of laws for women but the real problem is that the implementation is poor.

He favoured creating an environment free of intellectual and emotional inequality and pressure within the society as a whole.

The workshop included 130 judicial officers from all sessions divisions of the state.

It was organised to enhance skills and knowledge and to sensitise the judicial officers on gender issues and to apprise them of the latest provisions relating to gender justice, prevention of crimes against women and the role of judiciary in effective implementation of gender laws.
