Mangalore, Jun 3: After intermittent breaks, rains have attained momentum on Friday, accompanied by powerful winds in coastal Karnataka.
Accordingly the Disaster Management officials have declared a state of high alert in the coastal region.
Winds have been travelling at a speed of 45 to 55 kms an hour and hence the fishing community has been warned not to venture into the sea.

In the meantime, the sea has remained rough and the erosion-prone areas continued to be gobbled up by the swelling waves.
In the state, Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Mysore, Mandya, Chamarajnagar, Bangalore city and rural, Chitrdurga, Davanagere and Bellary districts have been notified as areas on high alert.
Moderate to heavy rains are expected to hit northern Karnataka areas like Belgaum, Dharwad, Haveri and other places, say the the Disaster Management officials.
