Ansari to represent India at Fahim's funeral

New Delhi, March 10 (IANS): Vice President Hamid Ansari will represent India at the funeral of Afghanistan's first vice president Marshal Mohammad Qasim Fahim in Kabul Tuesday, official sources said.

They said Ansari will take part in the prayer meeting to be held at the presidential palace and also meet Marshal Fahim's family members.

Marshal Fahim died Sunday following cardiac arrest at his Kabul home.

Condoling the death, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said he was a close friend of India and his contribution to Afghanistan's reconstruction after over three decades of war and conflict will always be remembered.

Marshal Fahim had visited India in 2011 at the invitation of the vice president.
