Bhatkal's bail plea dismissed

New Delhi, March 10 (IANS): A court here Monday dismissed the bail application of Indian Mujahideen co-founder Yasin Bhatkal and his aide Asadullah Akhtar for the Sep 13, 2008 Karol Bagh blasts.

It was the first bail application moved by Bhatkal, who was arrested for his alleged involvement in various terror cases.

Additional Sessions Judge Daya Prakash refused to release him and Akhtar on bail.

Defence counsel M.S. Khan requested the court to release his client and said he was arrested in the case Dec 10, 2013 and the statutory period of 90 days for investigation expired Monday.

The court, meanwhile, allowed the police plea seeking 15 more days to conclude the investigation.

Police told the court that questioning of Akhtar has revealed vital information about another accused Ariz Khan alias Junaid, and an operation to trace him was underway.

Several bomb blasts had rocked the capital city Sep 13, 2008. As many as 13 suspected Indian Mujahideen members are currently facing trial in the case.
