Poll panel looking into complaint against CPI-M lawmaker

Kolkata, March 10 (IANS): The Election Commission was looking into a complaint against senior CPI-M legislator Anisur Rehman for his alleged derogatory comments about West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, an official said Monday.

The state's joint chief electoral officer Saibal Barman said the state chief electoral officer Sunil Gupta was "looking into the matter".

"A political party has filed a complaint against Anisur Rehman with us today (Monday). We are looking into it," Barman told the media here.

However, he refrained from naming the party.

Besides making the personal remarks against Banerjee, Rehman Saturday described her ministerial colleagues as "lambs who can't even marry without permission".

The former minister, who was addressing an election rally in Birbhum district, also targeted actress Moon Moon Sen who is contesting the Lok Sabha polls as a Trinamool candidate.

Rehman said the actress was "foraying into politics to make money as her films were not working".

Burman said in such cases, the protocol is to seek a report from the district election officer. After submission of the report, if the commission finds anything offensive, then it will start a probe.

Meanwhile, the commission has initiated video recording of the campaigns. He also mentioned that a vulnerability assessment with respect to the security force requirement is going on.
