Seven killed in Nepal jeep accident


Kathmandu, March 11 (IANS): At least seven people were killed and over half a dozen seriously injured when a jeep ran 100 metres off the road in Nepal, police officials said Tuesday.

The accident occurred in the Dang district, a far-western district of Nepal, Monday midnight. The jeep plunged 100 metres down the road. Police were informed early Tuesday morning, and investigation is underway to find what caused the accident, Xinhua reported.

Those seriously injured have been admitted to Nepalgunj Medical College and Hospital. Preliminary investigation has indicated that the jeep was speeding along the road.

"We are investigating the reasons behind the accident and injured people have been admitted to hospital," police official Milan Shrestha, who reached the accident site, told the media.
