Death toll increases in drought-hit Pakistan area


Islamabad, March 11 (IANS): One more child died Tuesday in the drought-stricken Tharparkar district of Sindh in Pakistan raising the death toll to 135 in three months, media reported.

The child died at the Mithi Civil Hospital in Tharparkar, The News international reported.

The distribution of wheat among the affected families has been expedited, but relief activities are yet to be initiated.

Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif Monday announced a Pakistani Rs.1-billion (around $9.82 million) aid package for the drought-affected people.
