Lusaka (Zambia), March 11 (IANS): Zambia's football governing body says it intends to adopt an electronic ticketing system to avert rampant fraud in view of the country's bid to host the 2019 African Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Zambia is bidding for the hosting of the 2019 AFCON tournament and the southern African nation is doing everything possible to ensure that it hosts a successful tournament if selected, reports Xinhua.
Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) treasurer Kelvin Mutafu Tuesday said the introduction of an electronic ticketing system will see an end to cumbersome long queues that characterise the purchase of tickets during international matches.
The system, he said, will also curtail unscrupulous people from selling tickets on the black market.
The football governing body has since engaged Mahindra Satyam, a company that developed ticketing software for the South Africa 2010 FIFA World Cup finals, to implement the system in Zambia, he added.
"We are going Comptick, an arrangement to computerize our ticket sales. People will be able to buy tickets online and so this issue of rushing, bulk buying and congestion which sometimes has resulted in some of the fans sustaining injuries will come to pass," he was quoted as saying in the Times of Zambia.
