Avalanche warning issued in Kashmir


Jammu, March 11 (IANS): Jammu and Kashmir authorities Tuesday issued a "high danger" avalanche warning for higher reaches of the Kashmir Valley and Jammu region following heavy snowfall.

"On the basis of information received from the Snow and Avalanche Study Establishment (SASE), the state disaster management authority has issued high danger avalanche warning for hilly areas of Uri, Tangdhar, Ramban, Doda, Kishtwar, Poonch, Rajouri, Pulwama, Shopian, Kulgam, Badgam, Ganderbal, Baramulla, Kupwara, Bandipora and Kargil districts," said a statement.

People living in these snowbound areas have been asked to take precautions and not to venture on steep slopes.
