Mumbai, Jun 4: Pramod Mahajan’s thorny affair with the RSS - considered BJP’s parent body - was triggered  by Rahul Mahajan’s penchant for a lavish lifestyle.

Sources claim the RSS objected to Rahul’s relationship with a woman of Spanish origin.

It is reported that Pramod Mahajan himself was unhappy with the relationship. It was also an embarrassment for the BJP - the party that raised objections to Congress leader Sonia Gandhi’s Italian origin.

Sources claim that Pramod rebuked Rahul for his lifestyle, which the former BJP general secretary claimed, was hampering his political career.

Almost 10 years ago, Rahul and his friends celebrated New Year’s Eve by throwing a lavish party near the Gateway of India.

This did not go down well with the RSS, which objected to a BJP leader’s son celebrating an occasion according to the Gregorian calendar. It also disapproved of the huge sums of money spent on the bash.

This apparently led to a fight between Rahul and his father.
