New Delhi, Jun 4
: After a surprise visit to the New Delhi and Delhi Main railway stations, Railway Minister Lalu Prasad ordered strict action against the officials responsible for the shortcomings he found during his inspection.

The Railway Minister was not satisfied with the cleanliness at the platforms and arrangements for drinking water.

The filth and trash littered on the railway tracks and platform and non-functioning of ceiling fans provoked him into issuing a strong warning to the authorities.

Later, Prasad stepped into the Guwahati Rajdhani compartment and the pantry car and found the conditions unsatisfactory. He picked up some food samples and sent them for testing.

Bedsheets and pillow covers were not found clean either.

After taking a round of the New Delhi Railway station for an hour, the Railway Minister headed for the Delhi Main station where he found the situation no better.

He instructed the railway officials to pay special attention to the food served and maintain cleanliness in the compartment and on and around the platform.

The Minister was accompanied by Railway Board Chairman Jai Prakash Batra, Northern Railway General Manager Veenu Mathur and Delhi Divisional Railway Manager.
