Mangalore, Jun 4: The sub divisional magistrate on Saturday, Jun 3 directed the promoters of a multiplex to construct a retention wall at the excavated site within a week to avert damage to life and property.

Sub-divisional magistrate S A Prabhakar Sharma, following a complaint by Citizen’s Forum for Mangalore Development, directed the promoter to take a list of workers at the site and ensure their safety. The promoter and the city corporation commissioner were told to ensure the construction is taken up according to building norms.

Sharma hearing the arguments from both the parties, observed that according to the documents produced before him, it was evident that the promoter had not taken adequate precautions about the safety of the public and had excavated the hillock, up to a height of 500 mts from the ground, without the permission of the corporation authorities.

Sharma also noted that the hillock excavation was unscientific and had put public life and property in danger.

Sharma also said the promoter had pushed the residents on Light House Hill into danger.
