Mangalore, Jun 4: The district administration, which felt the necessary of bringing about certain precautionary measures in view of the heavy rainfall expected in the region, has passed an order banning the movement of heavy goods vehicles (LPG tankers, bullet tankers, lorries carrying timber, granite blocks and other articulates vehicles) on NH 48 between 8 pm and 5 am in the night.

Due to the movement of heavy vehicles on NH 48 it has been found that the traffic is affected and further the bad condition of the roads, poor visibility leads to roadblocks and traffic Jams.

The order will come into effect from June 1 2006 till September 30 2006. This order has been passed under section 115 of the Indian Motor Vehicle Act 1988 and Rule 221A (5) of the Karnataka Motor Vehicle Rules 1989.

The capsizing of heavy and long chassis vehicles in the dense forest area of Shiradi Ghat has also become an annual feature during every monsoon. Any such accident leads to blocking of the Highway for hours together and causes immense misery to other road users especially long distance travelers and that too during night hours. The above regulation would help to ensure smooth flow of vehicles on the highway and also avoid hardship to road using people.
