Mangalore, Jun 5: The 379th birth anniversary of Shivaji was celebrated here on Sunday June 4 by the local unit of Karnataka Kshatriya Maratha Parishat.
Speaking on the occasion, MLA N Yogish Bhat said that the situation of violence in the country now matched the condition prevalent during Shivaji's time. Therefore, a thorough study of his life and works will help to deal with the people causing terror today.
Ramoji Rao Sathe, parishat chairman, Bangalore, promised to sanction Rs 10 lakh to the parishat to construct a hall. Some members of the community donated money for the construction of the hall.
Students from the community who had achieved academic excellence were honoured on the occasion. Among those present were minister for fisheries B Nagraj Shetty and district president of the parishat Suresh K Rao.
