Advani to contest from Gandhinagar

New Delhi, Mar 20 (IANS): BJP patriarch L.K. Advani Thursday said he has decided to contest from the Gandhinagar parliamentary constituency after he was "touched" by the gesture of party leaders to give him the choice between the Gujarat seat and Bhopal.

Putting an end to the raging controversy over the reported sulking of the senior party leader after he was told to contest from Gandhinagar and not his choice of Bhopal, Advani said: "I have decided to contest the 2014 general elections from Gandhinagar itself. I have conveyed my opinion to (party president) Rajnath Singh."

Advani said he agreed to go with the choice of Gandhinagar after he was approached by the party's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi and by Rajnath Singh and it was conveyed to him that he was free to choose between the two parliamentary seats.

    So during Advani's regime, it was Advani, who was calling the shots.
    Now RSS has simply made MODI as BJP's face. In spite of lot of rebels against MODI for the PM.
    So now we can say its not BJP that is calling shots its RSS that is calling shots. Even Narendra Modi has no voice.
    Its sure that if BJP doesn't get majority say 273 seats, then there will be definitely elections again.and if they get 273 seats it will be RSS ruling not BJP

    It's clear that RSS is calling shots this time.
    So people Be ready next 5 years India will be ruled by RSS.
    So Hindu rastra is on the cards soon.

    Advani is helpless now and he have no value at all. The entire party has taken over by Modi and Bhagwath already. No democracy in the party, only dictatorship. Now some top leaders of BJP will come out from the party. Nobody want to be like a Modi's dog in the party.

    What is the truth Mr. Advani ? You were sullenly aloof and withdrawn in silent resentment for days and all of a sudden you say they have offered you a choice and you chose Gandhinagar. According to TV channels, Mr. Bhagwat in a clear and categorical statement warned you either to take Gandhinagar or else stay out of election arena. At least in your twilight years, speak the truth. After coming from Pakistan, what you did, nothing but, communal disharmony. Good, after becoming mellow and sensing the reality, you have gracefully or rather disgracefully accepted the offer.

    Hi Valerian, I had endorsed Roshan's comment this morning saying that it was the most accurate.
    The whole thing was a drama and now it is being said that Advani was given a choice just to put out the impression that all is well in the BJP. I ask if he was given a choice, why did he ultimately choose the BJP/RSS's choice when all along he did not want it ? I believe he was given an ultimatum - either Gandhinagar or retirement !

    Shri Advaniji is completing 87 years in November this year. By the time next loksabha completes tenure, he is in the vicinity of 92 years. It is honorable to him retire from politics and make way to youngsters.
