Jaswant Singh denied ticket for Barmer

New Delhi, March 21 (IANS): The BJP Friday denied a ticket from Barmer to senior leader Jaswant Singh, making former Congress leader Sonaram Choudhary its official candidate from the Kok Sabha constituency in Rajasthan.

An addendum to the 6th list of candidates released by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Friday announced Choudhary as party's Barmer candidate.

According to sources, he got the ticket on recommendation of Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje.

The announcement came a day after Jaswant Singh expressed desire to contest from Barmer, his native district. According to sources, the former union minister said he would fight as an independent from Barmer if the party does not give him a ticket.

It was also Thursday that the party managed to cajole senior party leader L.K. Advani to fight from Gandhinagar, the constituency chosen by the party for him.

Advani was miffed over the decision as he wanted to contest from Bhopal.
