300 file nominations for 10 Haryana seats


Chandigarh, March 22 (IANS): A total of 300 candidates have filed nomination papers for 10 Lok Sabha seats in Haryana, officials said here Saturday.

The filing of nomination papers which commenced March 15 ended Saturday.

Haryana Chief Electoral Officer Shrikant Walgad said a maximum of 47 candidates have filed nomination papers from Hisar constituency followed by 36 from Kurukshetra and 33 from Karnal seat.

The lowest number of candidates, 19, filed papers for the Rohtak Lok Sabha seat.

Rohtak MP and son of Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, Deepinder Singh Hooda, filed his papers Saturday in Rohtak town, 75 km from Delhi.

In the 2009 elections, 285 candidates had filed their nomination papers in the state.

The nomination papers will now be scrutinised and the last date of withdrawal is March 26, Walgad said. Polling will be held April 10 across Haryana's nearly 16,000 polling stations.

The main parties in the fray are the Congress, Indian National Lok Dal, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Haryana Janhit Congress (HJC) and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).
