Male, March 23 (IANS): Maldives President Abdulla Yameen's party and its coalition partners have won parliamentary elections, officials said Sunday.

The Maldivian parliamentary election which was held amid controversial removal of the head and deputy of the elections commission, concluded peacefully Saturday, reported Xinhua.

Vote counting gave the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party led by former president Mohammad Nasheed who was ousted from power in 2012 a slim lead initially but was soon overtaken by Yameen's Progressive Party of Maldives.
