Dubai, June 8 : It was a festive day for JMJ Konkani Prayer Group as they joyfully celebrated their 1st anniversary recently in St Mary's Church Main Hall, Dubai.
It was a unique celebration which was combined with spiritual and cultural programmes, guests, members, their families and friends participated in large numbers.
The event began with the recitation of Divine Mercy Rosary as a mark of thanksgiving.
The cultural programme commenced with one of the JMJ core members Prajval Colaco welcoming the chief guests on the stage. Chief guests were felicitated with flower bouquets, presented by little members of the Group.
A cake was symbolically to mark the first anniversary celebrations the chief guests Fr P M Peter, parish priest of St Mary's Church, Fr Frederick D'Souza, spiritual director of the JMJ Prayer Group, Aboline D'Cunha, vice president of parish council, St Mary's Church, Dubai and Noel Mascarenhas, main coordinator St Mary's Konkani Community (SMKC), Dubai.
Main Coordinator of the JMJ Prayer Group Herbert Menezes narrated the first year's accomplishment in the annual report.
Fr Peter spoke on the occasion and expressed his happiness over the growth and deeds of the Group and encouraged them to continue the good work. He specially appreciated the active involvement and support of young Core Team of the Group in all activities related to St Mary's Church.
In his speech, Fr Freddy congratulated the Core Team on their achievement in the first year and gave his advice to carry on this good mission with unity and dedication.
Comperes of the event Shyna Noronha and Bhaskar conducted the Bible Quiz and spot prizes.
A well-presented Konkani comedy skit "Amcho Poka" by Group members Richard D'Souza, Joe Rodrigues and Cecilia Rodrigues entertained the audience. Joe's acting skills in the role of 'Poka' remained in the minds of audience, which was evident by the smiles on the faces of people at the very mention of name 'Poka'!
Sydney Lewis, adviser of the Group gave the vote of thanks to all the people who supported the Group throughout the year and to those who were responsible for the success of event. He mentioned Group's special gratitude to Fr Cyprian D'Souza who had founded this Group.
The programme concluded with blessing of food. JMJ Core team had arranged it gratis for all those present. Canara Restaurant catered the food.
