Mangalore, Jun 8: The bane of the beedi workers has been spoken about on thousands of forums. Their misery seems never ending. It is at this juncture that a beedi workers' meet has been organised by the Karnataka State Beedi Workers' Federation on Friday June 30 at Town Hall here.
Former MLA and AITUC leader B V Kakkillaya, addressing press persons here on Wednesday June 7, said that the purpose of the meeting was to discuss the problems faced by beedi workers and to plan future protests against the government for failing to effectively implement minimum wages and payment of dearness allowance to the workers.
AITUC general secretary B Vishwanath Naik, Dakshina Kannada and Udupi district AITUC secretary B K Krishnappa and CPI secretary P Sanjeeva were present at the press meet.
