Udupi, Jun 8: Nitin Acharya (19), a second year degree student of Bhandarkars College at Kundapur was killed in a bike-tanker accident in front of the Ashirwad theatre near Kallianpur here on Thursday June 7 evening.  The bike rider Rakshit who too is a student of Bhandarkars College has escaped with minor injuries.

Nitin, son of Sitaram Acharya, the senior manager of Goldsmith Co-opeartive Bank and a resident of Koteshwar near Kundapur had come to the city along with Rakshit for service of latter's bike.  After servicing the bike they were going home.  Their friend Lohit too had come along with them on his brand new bike.

After reaching Ambagilu, Rakshit exchanged his bike with Lohit's bike.  While Rakshit was riding Lohit's bike, Nitin was riding the pillion.  As they reached near Ashirwad theatre, Rakshit applied brakes to his bike in order to evade from a pothole on the road.  At this point, the bike suddenly skidded and Nitin was thrown out.  His head banged against the tanker which was coming from behind.

As a result Nitin sustained serious injuries to his head and died on the spot.  However, Rakshit miraculously escaped only with minor injuries. 

A case has been filed in the town police station in this regard.
