26-year-old woman techie's parents arrested for murdering her

Hyderabad, Mar 24 (PTI): The parents of a 26-year-old woman software engineer, who allegedly killed their daughter barely two days after she married a man from another community against their wishes, were today arrested in Andhra Pradesh's Guntur district, police said.

P Hari Babu and Samrajyam, who allegedly strangulated P Deepthi at the family's housein Guntur yesterday and were absconding since the offence, were taken into custody from a nearby village, Superintendent of Police (Guntur Urban) Gopinath Jatty told PTI over phone.

"Both of them confessed to the crime," Jatty said.

Deepthi, who was working at an IT firm here since 2010, was in love with her colleague Kiran Kumar.

However, her parents were against the affair, police had earlier said.

But, the two went ahead and got married on March 21 at the Arya Samaj temple here.

"Her parents took them to their native place in Guntur, telling the newly-wed couple that they had accepted the marriage and the couple only needed to perform some rituals at Guntur," a police official had said.

In Guntur, the parents took the girl away while Kiran Kumar and his friends were asked to stay at a lodge.

Kiran Kumar tried to call his wife on her cellphone yesterday morning, and as there was no response, he alerted police who broke open the door of the house to find the woman lying dead on the bed.

"She had been strangulated with her chunri (stole)," said the official.A murder case was registered in connection with the offence.

The law should kill the culprit like the way they treated them. Also, those who support them from their community,. They are major hardworking, settled people.
